Our company is developing a new UVLED train suitable for pipeline repairs. Conventional UV curing light sources primarily used mercury lamps and metal halide lights, which relied heavily on mercury. The "Minamata Convention on Mercury" was adopted at the diplomatic conference of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) held in October 2013. From 2021 onwards, the manufacture, export, and import of certain mercury lamps will be prohibited. LED lighting became practical around the year 2000. Research into practical applications of UVLED has progressed, but UVLED curing devices have only been available for less than ten years. UVLED is effective for short-term repairs. It operates at a lower output than UV curing with mercury lamps. Naturally, it also consumes less power and can be used with batteries.
